Maa Brahmacharini: The Second Goddess Of Navratri





On the second day of Navratri, Maa Brahmacharini is worshiped by everyone. The meaning of Brahmacharini is a devoted female student who lives in an Ashrama with her Guru along with other students.

Maa Parvati took birth at the home of Daksha Prajapati and did Tap for about 5000 years to marry Lord Shiva, her unmarried form is worshiped as Maa Brahmacharini.

Maa Brahmacharini is depicted as wearing white clothes and walking on the bare feet. She has two hands and She carries Jap Mala in the right hand and Kamandal in the left hand.

It is believed that Lord Mangal, the provider of all fortunes, is governed by Maa Brahmacharini.

Mantra for worshipping Maa Brahmacharini is as follows.

देवी ब्रह्मचारिण्यै नमः॥


Prarthana for worshipping is as follows.

दधाना करपद्माभ्यामक्षमाला कमण्डलु |

देवी प्रसीदतु मयि ब्रह्म्चारिन्यनुतमा ||


Meaning: The one who carries the flower of Lotus, Rudraksha Mala and Kamandal in one hand. The sublime Maa Brahmcharini, please bless me. 

Maa Brahmacharini is an avatar of Maa Durga which has power, resolve, determination and focus at the core of her existence. With each avatar of Maa Durga, we can learn something.
